What is Openlink on LinkedIn? Now Open Profile …

Openlink - LinkedIn Openlink NetworkYou may have seen a much smaller version of the symbol to the right on some people’s profiles next to their name and, generally, next to a Premium account symbol too. While it’s not that obvious, what it signifies is that the member is part of the OpenLink network on LinkedIn.

{As from May 2014, LinkedIn appears to have renamed Openlink as Open Profile (that’s Open Profile as 2 words it seems) which is actually a sensible move, I would suggest, as Open Profile would appear to better communicate the real benefits of the function … as you will hopefully discover below}

OpenLink (now Open Profile) is something that is available exclusively to Premium account holders and indeed, in my opinion, is a key benefit of these paid for business accounts. Essentially, it lets people who are members to find and get in contact with other professionals who are interested in meeting new people. It also opens up the ability for anyone to contact you and makes certain that anyone can see your full details in the search results, whether the searcher is part of your network or not. Customise your website links

LinkedIn Profile SeriesIt’s important to make best use of what we are given on LinkedIn, I think that you’ll agree. The links through to our websites and blogs form another key part of the information we provide as it helps us get people thinking about our sites and also encouraging them to click through and visit them. After all, LinkedIn is really just a place to initiate the connection with people but then you’ll want them on your own site to further the relationship.

Anyway, to help encourage them to come through to your website, you need to make sure that you don’t simply retain the simple “Company Website” display name that is the default text that LinkedIn gives us. (They currently provide a choice of 5 in all that, while descriptive I guess, are always going to be generic.)

Instead, how about being able to customise them and so display the name that you would like to have there. It will attract the eye (more…)

LinkedIn Company Page editors – a word of advice

LinkedIn Company Pages error[FYI – there’s a key bit of advice at the end regarding setting permissions for LinkedIn Company Page administrators so do read on!]

Well, you’ve got to laugh haven’t you?

I’ve been telling clients during training sessions all about the hugely improved new company page set up on LinkedIn – indeed if I wasn’t so firmly set against hyperbole when it comes to Social Media then I’d be tempted to call it awesome. Anyway, suffice to say, between you and me, it really is hugely powerful with some fabulous potential in terms of marketing opportunities, customisation and tapping into the power of recommendations!

But who can edit them?

Anyway, the only thing I didn’t like was the fact that anyone with an email address on the company domain could get in and edit it. Well, no longer the case, as I guess (more…)
