Keeping Secure on LinkedIn

As more and more business and personal activity happens online, we have an increasing challenge of both remaining seen (and heard) while at the same time also staying safe – luckily there are some security aspects built into the LinkedIn system that you may like to consider and apply.

So, I’m going to encourage you to have a look at 6 areas that I’ve outlined below which will keep you – and your information – that little bit more secure on LinkedIn going forward.

1. Where are you logged into LinkedIn

I don’t know about you, but I log into LinkedIn from a number of different places and a number of different devices – I might do so from the comfort of my own office but I will also do so in clients’ premises while running training sessions for them or from a coffee shop where I’m doing some work when on the road. The two step verification option is an important element that LinkedIn introduced a while ago but it is there to supplement some of the other security elements which already exist on the platform, so it seems worth spending a couple of moments on them first.

Be password savvy

The password is an obvious one and many of us are guilty of a few cardinal sins when it comes to passwords, either on LinkedIn or elsewhere.

LinkedIn Security & SafetyWith more and more activity happening online, in all of our interactions we have dual issues of both getting seen (and heard) while at the same time also staying safe – luckily there are some security aspects built into the LinkedIn system which may help.

I’m not talking about getting your homepage spam free – that’s a topic I’ve talked about elsewhere – but rather ensuring your access and activity on LinkedIn is as secure as possible. After all, it’s your own personal information, professional information and connections that are all built up in this site.

So, I’m going to encourage you to have a look at 6 areas that I’ve outlined below which will keep you – and your information – that little bit more secure on LinkedIn going forward.

1. Which services have access to your LinkedIn account

In a world where automation and streamlining seem to be pushing us to try to link everything together, we have no doubt allowed certain services to have access to our LinkedIn account to aid that process, Twitter being a prime example. (more…)

Housekeeping essentials on LinkedIn – Practical & Functional

Linkedin Housekeeping ChecklistThis is the second part of a 2 post series looking at some key housekeeping tasks that I’d recommend on LinkedIn – things that we might consider to be in the “New Year Resolution” category but which I believe some be a continual process throughout the year.

The first post looked at some key planning and usage elements that I believe to be fundamental to how we successfully work on LinkedIn and here in the second, we turn our attention to some practical and functional elements which I would encourage you build into any back up process going forward. Blocking people on LinkedIn

blocking-linkedin-profilesHaving the ability to block people from being able to view and access your profile has long been a contentious issue on LinkedIn and there has been an ongoing campaign to get an option that mirrors a similar function on other networking sites, and Facebook in part. As a result, there has been a considerable amount of pressure brought to bear from certain quarters to create such an option, the focus coming from a personal security perspective, citing occurrences of stalking and inappropriate behaviour.
